Thankful for...

This Thanksgiving we will be with the In-Laws. I know, I know, most would say, "ewwww" and some like their In-Laws more than their birth families... Me, well, lets just say they are definitely growing on me. We had somewhat of a rocky start- trust me they know this too it is no secret- and now they are starting to grow on me. I can finally have a conversation with Curt's Mom and "we" are nice to each other and seem to get along. There was not too many months ago where we would barely look at each other. I fell like I am finally starting to fit somewhere in this new family of mine. I am looking forward to the Holidays, while it is always hard to be away from ones own family, I am excited about the traditions that I will be able to help with every year and enjoying my new spot in this family!

** Did I mention, that my MIL (mom-in-law) agreed to let me cook the turkey this year. I hope I told her it is my first time EVER to cook a turkey.... Wow, I hope we have a back-up! And, I hope my Internet research has served me well.... I guess we shall see, I will let you know on Friday....

***If you have any bird cooking tips, let me know... I just might need them...

Happy Thanksgiving Ya'll....

If you missed it, I am thankful for FAMILY, not just the in-laws, all of my family- I would not be who I am with out any one of them....

I've been busy... *edited to add*

....but the truth be told, "I take horrible" pictures of myself... These pictures are so bad, but Curt was not home and Mason is no help in the camera department... Trust me, I tried... Plus, if I asked Curt to help, he would only make fun because he thinks I am addicted to my blog.... He is sooooo right, I am getting help, don't worry about me...

I have been working on my "Handmade Holidays" pledge... Oh, wait I never told you about that... Well, here it is, "If you are not the kid or the hubby, you are most likely getting something that my little fingers whipped up!" I think it is fun to make things for other people, I love receiving things that people put their time into... Plus when i am making something for someone I feel like I am making it just for them, you know "personalized!"

I found these scarfs online earlier in the week and I itched for days until I could make it to Michael's and get some yarn. There are my first few and I cannot wait to get more yarn with more funky colors...

Pink & White Long scarf...

Pink & White neck warmer.... This one was sort of a mess up, but I wore it around all day and it was so warm and it looked cute under my coat...

Creme Long Scarf...

Look how stinkin cute...

The scarf is {darling} but take a gander at those books in the floor.... Ahhh, sweet Mason... Always reminding me that he is always here to keep me on my toes...

If you are interested on one of these babies and do not have the time to make them for your self, let me know I might just make you one.... As soon as I get the hang of making them they will be for sale on the Kiki & Lele website... So, act fast if you want one for *Free*! I have pink and apple green yarn left... those are your choices...

*** Fresh out of yarn.... To those of you who e-mailed me, your scarfs will be out in the mail next week! If you have not sent your address yet, please do so by Monday so I can ship!***

Dear 2 Year Old Helper...

Mommy is so glad that you are in your helpful phase. Although, sometimes you exhaust her with your lovely ideas of help... Sometimes it is so hard to keep up with your excitement and zeal for laundry and dishes... If you could just remember a few things, it might really help me out...

Please remember that Mommy needs to help you when you decided it is a good idea to use the fabric softener all by your self... That bottle is pretty heavy.

Also, that when you take Mommy's "Coco" off of the coffee table and throw it into the sink to "clean it", think about letting Mommy help you.... Glass flies at a pretty fast rate out of a sink when a toddler throws it as hard as he can...

If you could next time, please do not give the remote a bath...

Also, keep in mind that motorcycles do not wash so well in the washer machine... Ask Mommy next time and I will wash it in the sink for you...

And since you know how to open the doors now, if you would not mind telling me the next time you decide that it is time for Gabby to go potty out the front door.... It is a good thing she is a good dog and always comes home.... (for the record, I was washing dishes in the kitchen and never heard him open the glass door... I am going to have to get some sort of alarm for that thing)

Like I said, I am so glad that you are helpful to me and I always welcome your thoughtfulness. I love you and cannot wait for the next funny thing you do....

Love Always,
Mom

{Check It Out}

I have been working on Christmas presents for Family & Friends... I ran across this scarf and I am dying to make it... I am headed out to buy the yarn today and I will be back this weekend to show off my finished product!

{darling}
Are you making anything for the Holidays??? Fill me in, I love handmade gifts... They are the BEST!

Odd....

It may not be odd to you, but it is to me... Mason is bathing in the morning.... I winder what he has gotten himself into that he needs a bath in the morning???

Story...

I ran downstairs for 2 seconds, literally to lay something on the couch and then run back up stairs...

I came back up to find Mason in the laundry room with my fabric softener. The lid was off and he was trying to pour it into the dispenser... Before I could say, "Noooooo...." there was orange Snuggle all over him and the floor and all over him.... Why me? Oh well, I tried not to laugh, but as soon as he realized he made a mess he started saying, "I hop uuuu." Translation, " I help you!" He wanted so bad to be a helper. It is really partly my fault, when i am doing laundry, I always let him pour it in so he can help me!!!

Sweet little bug, he just wanted to help....

I could not take a picture of the disaster area because some really mean clothes fairies came last night and destroyed the laundry room, there is clothes piled all over the room...

Look at that face, the sweet innocent guilty look I get almost every single day!

This is a video of Mason last night riding his bike... He put that blanket on all by himself... He is so funny... Check out his mad skills on the tri-cycle!

Wordful Wednesday- Chili

Sooo, I have never made chili before Sunday. It was my first time and truth be known, I did not use a recipe. I hardly ever use them. This often makes my husband very ill. Only for the reason of waisting food.
So, when I told him I was going to make chili, he plainly said, "make sure you have a recipe- call your MOM!" I did not want to call my Mom. I am 26 and should be able to make chili on my own.... So, I headed to the store under the assumption that I had a recipe...

It turned out yummy and after the "bite of approval" from Curt, I fessed up. I had no recipe... He was fine with it because I was not putting the whole pot down the garbage disposal. We have been eating chili for 3 days now and I must say I am glad it is gone, for more reasons than you may want to know... It was yummy, it cured our chill for a "chili" fall day! We made chili dogs, chili pies and just plain old bowls of chili...

Leslee's 3 Bean Chili:

1 can of kidney beans
1 can of chili beans
1 can of black beans
1 pack of chili sauce
1 pound of beef
1/4 onion
1tsp minced garlic
1 big can of tomato sauce
1 can of diced tomatoes

Saute the ground beef, add in some garlic, onions and then salt and pepper to desire.
Add all of the other ingredients into one big pot, simmer and when the meat is fully cooked mix it all together...

Soooo yummy! I know I am armature. Do not laugh at me if you think my recipe is silly! If you want to try it, you must know first, it is very chunky chili, we (Curt & I) do not like anything runny, unless it is soup!

Have a great day and for more Wordful Wednesday pictures, hop on over to see Angie at:

Lets just say, I do not even care... I think I need this because when I decide I am going to be a real cook, I want to do it in style... REAL STYLE!

I am defiantly NOT at work today, and since I am NOT here, I am NOT wishing to be at home with my sweet hubbie and my little Mason....
Since I am telling you "NOT" things, I have defiantly NOT been yearning, dreaming, wanting a baby girl so badly (*We are not trying for a baby, It just me, I am the crazy one). Last week while I was not staying up very late every night making baby girl hair bows for a Kiki & Lele event Saturday. My husband did NOT catch my very hormonal self crying while wrapping ribbon around a clip. He did NOT look at me like I was crazy. I told him why I had the tears.... I looked at me and said.... "That is why you are crying, hair bows made you cry about wanting a baby girl....?" Surely he did NOT get the silent treatment for about 3 hours....

Perfect-o!

Today was the best day ever... I hate that I had such a good time that I even forgot to take pictures.
This weekend was busy, well Saturday was anyways. Kacey and I had Holly Days market here in Murfreesboro all day Saturday. We did great, people around here are starting to hunt us down for our jewelry. So much fun...
Today we just hung around. Mason was at my Mom & Dad's since Friday and he went to church with them this morning. I slept in and got up and cleaned the house. Speaking of the house, it was totally neglected last week and really needed my attention today. Anyways, I picked Mason up and we headed back to Murfreesboro. He fell asleep in the car and I brought him in and he slept until 3:30pm. During nap time I got to go to the grocery, child-free. I came home and made chili, for the first time ever, and I must say it was super yummy! Then Curt wanted cheese dip, so I made some of that too! I also made brownies too! Then we went to Sunday night service because we missed this morning and we got to see 30 people get baptised and dedicate their lives to the Lord. It was such a nice and relaxing day. Really, it was the best Sunday ever, hands down!

Funny Story:

Me: "Mason would you like to go to church tonight?"
Mason: "Surcsh..."
Me: "Yep, we are going to church so you can learn about Jesus."
Mason: "Eeeeus?"
Me: "Yes, Jesus."
Mason: "No Surcsh Mommy, Mason cars and momo's... No surcsh..."
Me: thinking.... "What went wrong here?"

We are definitely going to have to work on this....

I hope yours was as good as mine...

PSF Friday... {I never get tired}

PhotoStory Friday
Hosted by Cecily and MamaGeek

It is time for PSF again... I cannot hardly believe it. This week has flown by so fast, I have been so stinkin busy that I cannot even remember what all I have done... If you want to know why I have been so busy, look here...

Anyways, to the major point. I have not had much time this week to even think about taking any clever pictures of Mason or even anything I have done. I finally had time to clean my house last night, well- some at least...

I took these pictures this morning. Mason has gotten so good at entertaining himself in the mornings while I get stuff done or get a shower. This morning while I was putting my make up on, I came out of the bathroom to see why he was so quite and I found him just like this....

He is in a laundry basket on my bed that he stuffed himself with pillows and a blanket.
I never get tired of the fun new things he is learning... He is so "zoned in" in this picture. He was watching "Wheels on the Bus..."

He looks comfy, huh? I wish I could curl up with a blanket and a pillow in a snugly place....

He was actually telling me. "In Mommy.." He loves it when we can do everything together. Lately he has been asking me to get "in" the bath tub... Too bad for me I am usually folding laundry while he is in the bath tub...

So, I hope you are not getting tired of almost every post being about Mason, but he is pretty much what my life revolves around... Every time I whip out the camera, it is to catch what he is doing...

Have a happy weekend...

WW- Cheese...

Hello All and a Happy Wordful Wednesday to you....

Mason's new thing is actually acknowledging me when I try and take his picture. Which is a fabulous thing because we are scheduled to have family pictures this Sunday! I took this picture this morning as I was trying to get ready for work. Mason was staying entertained by playing with my make-up brushes and the tools in my {very messy closet/ old office} in the background... He is such a stinker. Lets just say my make-up is not quite even thins morning due to the fact that he put my powder brush in his mouth...

Loving the mohawk, I used some of my left-over hair gunk on his hair...

Silly Bear

Sunday at church Mason learned that, "God made the animals..." He did some really fun projects, and this was his favorite... I am not sure what animal is should be, maybe a wombat, a bear.... Your guess is as good as mine... He wears this little head band all over the house...

Please excuse his messy shirt, he is 2 ya know???

If you like this....

You really want to fo Here and see some other way cute stuff!

Update

The Story behind it all.... Saturday we were at the store picking up a few things. Mason was walking along and I was right behind him, I had my hand placed right around his shoulder/ neck region guiding him along. We were looking at something and I was rubbing the back of his little head, he has the softest hair... Suddenly, I felt a knot right where his head and neck meet... I was panicking on the inside, I calmly walked over to Curt and showed him and we decided that first thing Monday we would get him in to see the doc. I think I am a little more paranoid sometimes because I am on the Internet so much and always reading very sad stories... All weekend I as praying so hard for my little bug, never letting on that I was a nervous wreck. The chances that it was a lymph node were BIG, but when I called the doctor to look for answers he said it could be "other" things too. I am no moron, I know what "other" things are...

We went to the doctor, I had been so nervous all day on Monday until I walked through those doors, a peace flew over me like a fresh warm blanket. I felt in my heart that everything was fine... I wish this feeling would have come much earlier in the weekend as I had downed half a bottle of tums since Saturday! The doctor examened Mason and said that it was in fact a lymph node. No worries.... Whew!

Rule of thumb: if you feel a lump under the skin and it stays put when you try and feel it, that is a big deal. If it rolls around under the skin, not so much a big deal.

Thanks for your prayers and your thoughts and your support!

Not Me Monday....

I am definitely not trying to recover from a long weekend without any rest...

I am surely not happy to be back at work just to be away from the mess that my house is...

My sweet hubby did not leave a dead fish in the fish tank for 2 days and then make me try and feel bad about it... {for the record: I hate the fish, never liked them, tried several time to keep the darn tank clean only to wash my hands of it a year or so ago... I have too many other things to keep clean!}

I am not stressing about Mason's doctor's appointment later today... I will keep you posted with more details later...

Now, I definitely do not need to be doing the huge mounds of work that is NOT piled high on my desk....

Off to start a fabulous week....

This picture does not really have a story, well not about anything specific anyways...

The story behind this picture is that it is actually a picture of *me* and *curt* all in the same picture. This hardly ever happens lately. Our lives are so busy, we hardly ever see each other. His schedule changes about every quarter, he works crazy hours, he is starting back to Grad school in January, I work part time, together we both take care of Mason- sacrificing so that he can be taken care of by us and not at daycare (i have nothing against daycare), sacrificing our time together... For it would be far easier on the both of us to put him into daycare- we would definitely get more time together... But we agree that for our family that this is the best remedy. We spend all of the time we can together and relish each second... We have built a beautiful family and our little family is the WHOLE reason that we make the decisions we make...

Curt,
You are.... my love, best friend, the tester of my limits, the lover of my cooking, the best father ever, a super funny guy, a great son, the reason that I wake up, understander of my moods.... and I love you for all of this and even more...
Thank you for being there for it all,

Love forever- me.

ps- sorry if you all did not want a gushy post... I really did not know it was going to turn out that way...

Have a Happy Friday...

Poop-scapades...

Well, today has been a poop-y day at the Phillips household. Not a gloomy day, just a literal poop-y day! We are trying to potty train Mason and let me tell ya, it is interesting!

This morning, I was running late so I put Mason in the tub while I showered, I did not want him running all over the house unsupervised. He played well in the tub so I continued to fix my hair and make-up. I was in the bedroom (just around the corner) and I heard, "I pee, Mommy, I pee..." This made me nervous, not because he peed, I really want him to learn that. It made me nervous because he has it all mixed up (Pee= poop) & (poop= pee) . Yea, you can see now why I was nervous. I slowly made my way over to the tub to see what he was talking about. The closer I got the more evident it was that I was going to have to go on poop-patrol. He was looking down at the water and saying, "yook, its peeee, Mom-mom!" Oh Buddy, was it ever... I do not know how little kids make such HUGE "pee"! Bless his heart, I quickly asked him if he wanted to finish on the potty... He looked at me and said, "sucker, please!" He never finished on the potty, but it was a milestone because he went poop outside of his diaper. He has never done this, he is pretty much scared of poo-ing on the potty, not sure why, he pees just fine.

This afternoon when I returned home from work, I went to check on Mason (who was napping- like usual) in his room. He was not there, so I looked in on Curt sleeping and Mason was right beside him. I thought awww, they are napping together. Then I decided to go and make Mason's bed. I do not know what it is but I cannot stand an un-made bed. Then I saw it... Dang, can a Momma catch a break? Not that I had not already dealt with poop this morning, but now it was smeared all over his bed. How in the heck did this happen? I cannot wait to ask Curt when he wakes up to go to work, "what in the heck happened today?" My thoughts are that he was so excited to poop out of his diaper that when he was in his bed, supposed to be napping, that he took the diaper off to give it another try... Those are just my thoughts though...
Ps- Can someone please tell me, "Do raisins have ANY nutritional value if they come out looking the same way they went in?" I do not think he even chews the darn things... Ahhh, the lovely life of being a MOM!
Have a nice night.

{Prayers} & Wordful Wednesday

This is Mason's Gran, Curt's Mom! This week my Wordful Wednesday post is for her. She just had a major surgery on her knee, she pulled through just great. We knew she would, she is such a trooper! But she needs your prayers for a fast recovery. I believe in the power of prayer and that God heals all. Pray for her that God will help her make a fast and speedy recovery so she can get back to rolling around on the floor with her favorite grandson.

For more Word{ful} Wednesday's click on this button and join in the fun... Oh, and do not forget to leave a comment, we all love comments...

The Whole Family Did It...

Curt and I took Mason to go and vote today. It felt so amazing to be able to take him with us. It was fun, we did not wait in line, we cast our votes, Mason was such a good little boy and everyone loved his red hair... Did I say we did not have to wait in line?

I am excited to see the results of this monumental election.

{*me*} Re-visited- post #300

I posted last week about {me}! At the time of the post I had a lot going on in my life and I was just spent. It felt like every time I started cleaning, it would all get messed up, the laundry kept piling up even though I was doing several loads... I felt like I was in the movie "Groundhog Day". I just wanted to think about me, to talk about me, to like me... My life is centered around my boys, my darling boys, Curt and Mason. While I love them dearly and spend every single hour of every single day thinking about them and do-ing for them, I just wanted something to be about me. It does not bother me in the slightest, as being a wife and a mother is the job I signed up for. I love it and would not change my life, EVER!

I love the "comment love" I got from you all. Some of you were concerned, some were witty, some were sweet and some silly! Thanks so much for stopping in to tell me your thoughts on how you do for "you!" It is apparent to me now that I need "me" time. I spent a lot of time this weekend doing me things; crafting, reading, making jewelry, blogging & taking 2 baths... It was so much fun. I know, you are wondering when I had so much time to do all of this stuff??? Well, I did it all during nap & bed time. I stayed up late just having fun all by myself. It was fun, I was a little sleepy, but I had a great time re-connecting with me.

Here are some of my fav-o-rite comments from my caring bloggy friends!

What do I do for me????? Hmmmm that's a good one. This is going to sound dumb but I love going to the store ALONE and giving myself french tips while watching my TV shows at night. Yeah having typed it out it all sounds pretty lame, but when your the mom of 5 it's the little things....;)
Rachel
Ps. Great post, we all needed this.

Rachel, do not be silly! Girl, you are the Mom of 5, it is a wonder you have time to do french tips. You know I think you are "Super Mom" anyways... Thanks for the comment!

What a great post and what a great reminder. I think for us all to be better mommies we have to be better to ourselves...at least occasionally!!

Liz, thanks so much for the comment. You hit the nail on the head. It does make me feel like a better Mommy when I get to focus on myself a little every now and then.

Mama Geek, let me know when you schedule that vacation... Thanks for the comment!

Mine's not too creative. But sometimes going on a nice long drive with loud music on does it for me! Especially this time of year when its a bit cold and the leaves are beautiful. But the windows down a little, get a hot cup of coffee/apple cider and just drive a little with some great music! ...

Jenny, I totally agree... I love cider, my favorite is Carmel Apple Spice from Starbucks... YUM! I love driving in my car with the music up, especially when I get to listen to "adult" music.
To all: if you get a chance head on over to Jenny's blog. I went to High School with her. She started up a blog not long ago, she and her husband are adorable.

I'm terrible about this......but, I say hire a babysitter for a few hours and just go do anything. Anything alone. I'd go to the library or a book store. :) This balance thing is tough! :)

Angie, great idea... I really need to find a good babysitter in my town. I have never really hired one, at least I need one for back up!

Oh geesh...sorry, but I'm fresh out of thing for ME time...I have a 2 AND 3 year old. Is there really such a thing as ME time?! Yikes. Let me know. I'm having ME time right now while blogging, does that count? Laundry needs to be done and the counter is a mess...and I'm blogging. That counts in my book :-)

Lindsay, yes blogging does count... Blogging is one of my most favorite things to do for me. I love it! Thanks for the comment.

You are right - more needs to be done so we don't lose ourselves in the MOM of us! I forget about ME all the time and only focus on MOM

You are so right... I also believe we can all do better if we are able to keep in touch with who we really are. Remembering what lights a fire in me, keeps me going!

Not often enough, but I DO take the occasional girls night out. Even if its I just leave Jon with the kids so I can meet a friend for dessert after the kids are in bed its totally worth it. It helps.Good luck. I wish I could say that the stress goes away when the kids get older, but it doesn't. It just changes. But I KNOW you will get through it all with flying colors!!

Cecily, thanks so much for the words of wisdom...

This is going to sound selfish, but I have a lot of "me time." It will slow down once Baby gets here, but for now, here are my ideas: I go to the gym every morning. While I'm there I watch the Today show and Rachael Ray. In the evenings, while James is studying, I usually curl up on the couch and read books and write in my journal. Sometimes just turning up my music and dancing around is fun, or going for a drive up the canyon is great too. And you'll hunt me down for this one..i LoVe going to get pedicures. :)

Amy, you are allowed all the pedicures you want, you are preggo and that allows you as many as your little heart desires. I am so jealous of you- you get to drive through the canyon... That sounds very relaxing and fun!

I wish I had miracle words to offer you. And just remember that NO ONE is a perfect mom 100% of the time. Whoever is giving you that illusion is LYING!I enjoy reading at night, its great downtime, and me time. And I try to turn off the tv more, it seems to help. I hope that you are able to find something that helps keeps the stress down. Remember that its ok and perfectly normal to ask for help! I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who are more than willing to help you. :)

Amanda, you are so sweet... Thanks for being so caring... I miss you and cannot wait to see you next year. You are so grounded and that makes being around you super FUN!

Wow, I hear you! I have a two year old too, and some days he drives me NUTS. He can be so stubborn. What do I do for me? I try to squeeze in a little exercise.. I take a shower and fix my hair... I blog while my kids nap. It's so hard sometimes though. Hang in there!

Honey Mommy, I agree, fixing my hair sometimes feels like "me time" it just depends on what kind of day I am having... Oh, I love going to my Zumba classes, that is definitely great for me.

I feel this post. If only I could implement it I would probably be a much better Momma, but remember who you are. What do you enjoy doing? Find those things and make the time. I love sewing and crafting. Last weekend my husband gave me pretty much the entire day Saturday to go to the office and work on whatever I wanted to do. I made my daughter a coat and two pairs of pants and my son two pairs of pants. The rest of the weekend was fabulous. I wasn't all stressed out. I was actually fun to be around and the Husband noticed. I'm not saying it's possible every weekend, but what about once a month, just a nice break to do what YOU enjoy. That's lovely. Good luck finding something to give you that mental (and physical) recharge that we moms need. :)

Kelli, you have a sweet husband... Wow, you had one productive weekend! Thanks so much for your comment!

Shellie said...

You shouldn't have asked. I go to the bathroom all by myself! I'm terrible at this. Blogging is about it, but when I'm getting all stressed out, I try to get some time alone to just relax and thing about what can I just let go, and what do I need to do
most.

Shellie, that is too funny. When Mason is not home and I can actually go to the bathroom by myself it feels like a real treat. When I was a kid it seems like I was never wanted to bother my Mom until she was in the bathroom, it would drive her crazy... I am sure the more children I have the harder it will be to have a child-free restroom!

Ok, so if you did not notice, I just linked some pretty cool blogs. All of which are on my daily list to read.

Also, on a very FUN note: this is my 300th post... Can you believe that? I can't!

A Few Highlights From Halloween 08

Basically, Mason was the cutest Bat Man ever... He ran through the streets of Kacey & Brian's neighborhood protecting all form goblins and ghouls... I have never laughed so hard as I did when Mason just took off running. There was a point when Curt had to put Mason on his shoulders. Neither one of us had the strength to catch him any longer... On Daddy's shoulders was the best place to be...

Mason tried unsuccessfully to enter several houses... People would open the door and he would just walk right in... Maybe he was checking the houses for bad guys.
Here he is being very sad about not being able to run the streets as fast as his little legs would take him...

In action... Soooo fast...

Just starting out to trick-or-treat. Literally seconds before he took off to rid the streets of crime...

This, is Ben... One of Mason's little buddies. Not sure why he was on the floor, but he was a pretty cute Dino.

The clan. They all sat so still for the pictures. Every single year we put them all on a couch and take pictures. Each one of them is looking at a different camera. But look, Mason is smiling at his Mommies camera... That is HUGE!

Before the tricks and treats all of the kids had a pic-nick on the floor. It was Mason's first ever and I must say, he did great!

Miss Lilly, the most adorable Kittie.

Ruby Jane & Lincoln just being cute little kiddos...

Here is the sweet little Dino with a face shot, getting prepped by his Mama for the big occasion.

Bat Man always says, "Be safe, wear your helmet"

I hope you had the Happiest Halloween ever. Ours get better every year, and I hope yours do too!
